I love castles. But I also REALLY love Castles that are big and have creativity inside them. Much like Fort Zero, this also had a lot of work gone to it, but it's finished! This is just one of those structures that screams "amazing". This castle was built by LightWarriorK and it's called the Shadowmarch Castle. This castle is so big, that is freezes up my computer sometimes. Also, it takes a while to load. But the best part is that you can play it, yourself! Venture inside the castle for yourself, here. I just hope you have a good enough computer to handle it. But, I should just let the pictures do that talking.
Hey everyone! I felt it was about time to share this. I've mostly hit a wall until Notch updates Creative, so I figured now would be as good a time as any. I hope you enjoy!
What is Shadowmarch?
Shadowmarch Castle is the central location featured in Tad Williams' book series named Shadowmarch. There are currently three books out with the fourth, and final, book due out in November. They're all really amazing, and a fantastic story, so I highly recommend them.
What is included?
A lot, actually. This is a 512x512x256 map, started in OMEN. However, the OMEN portion was very small, and I took a completely hands-on approach after this point:
It now looks like this:
I can't stress this enough: ALL castle work and ALL detail terrain work was done in-game, by hand: no cheats or hacks.
What is included is as close a product I could make within the size limits of the map and up through the second book, Shadowplay.
What is not included?
Funderling Town and below isn't done. Ah well. It's a lot to do, and I'd like the lighting Notch is doing to be implemented before I try it. I also haven't updated it to account for Shadowrise, the third book yet. There are also some small areas and details that I either ran out of room to do, or was incapable of doing well in Minecraft.
Can I play it?
Sure! Here's the link! Enjoy!
There's a lot to take in, and if you're not intimate with the books it may be easy to be overwhelmed. Here's a pictorial guide of the highlights:
Some full-view shots:
Castle Penthouse Suites: 4
Castle Apartments: 17
Castle Dungeon Cells: 24
Guard/Servant Beds: 281
Market Town Homes: 67 (many with multiple beds)
Skimmer Town Homes: 19
Funderling Town Homes: TBD
Now, these are just a few pictures. There are way more pictures inside the thread he posted. And by "way more" I mean around 80 or so. But, I don't know about you, I'd rather see it for myself. Enjoy!
